June 10, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

RSVP

Join visual artist Victoria Martinez in a discussion about her studies and research at Yale University. She will share her experience in textile-based research and studio experiments, her travels to Mexico to study pyramids, and her public art practice with communities in New Haven and Chicago.

Victoria Martinez was born in Chicago in 1987. She received a BFA in fine arts studio from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2010 and will be graduating with an MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University School of Art in 2020. Martinez has exhibited at the Yale University Art Gallery, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Gaylord and Donnelly Foundation, and Loyola University Museum of Art. Upcoming projects include a public art project in collaboration with the Yale Center for British Art and a local public library in New Haven and a group exhibition at Perrotin Gallery in New York City. Her work has been critically appraised in Poetry Foundation Magazine and The University of Chicago Press.

Martinez creates fiber-based projects such as paintings, murals, and installation art. Her work recognizes textiles as an essential medium in the realm of contemporary paintings and architecture. The artist has a reverence for public art, ancient pyramids, and found shapes and structures from the built and natural environments.
