November 11, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Register

Join Fawn E. Pochel in exploring unique approaches to raising the visibility of Indigenous people by using place in knowledge keeping. Participants will learn and share about how the American Indian Center is working in solidarity with multiple partners to develop collaborative efforts focused on public education centered on Native Peoples and lands within Chicago by highlighting, developing and maintaining interactive learning opportunities. Participants will gain new perspectives on how to engage their own communities toward building solidarity with Native peoples and aid in the development of Indigenous earthworks and placemaking within urbanized areas.

Fawn E. Pochel (First Nations Oji-Cree) is an advocate for social and environmental justice. Her body of work focuses on raising awareness of Native Peoples living in Chicago with the goal of contributing to the personal sovereignty, healing, and educational pursuits of Native Youth. As the Education Coordinator of the American Indian Center-aicchicago.org, Fawn works closely with educators across the city to incorporate land-based pedagogues and perspectives into curricula while developing and implementing innovative community programming through an Indigenous lens focused on the preservation of native plants and heritage foods. In her free time Fawn advises an autonomous grassroots collaborative, Chi-Nations Youth Council, whose mission is to create safe space for Native Youth through Arts, Activism and Education.
