Amanda Williams on ‘Carver Innovation Blue’ Lecture
September 16, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for a special lecture aligned with the current exhibit in the Artist’s Garden, The Creative Mind of George Washington Carver! Artist Amanda Williams will discuss her interest in working with Carver’s patent to explore innovation today.
Amanda has spent the last few years keenly focused on recreating a 1920s George Washington Carver patent for a Prussian Blue pigment. Her interest is in the ability of color to symbolize the power of Black imagination in pursuit of beauty in the face of unyielding adversity. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration with research scientists and chemistry students at the University of Chicago and Xavier University, Amanda and her team have successfully developed pigment for use in various forms of paint to be used in site specific projects for her inclusion in the New Orleans Prospect.6 Triennial opening in November 2024.
This program will take place after-hours on Monday, September 16th, at Garfield Park Conservatory in the Horticulture Hall from 6pm-7pm–doors open at 5:30pm. This program is free of charge with registration; included in admission is access to Artist’s Garden exhibit before and after event. Light refreshments will be provided.
Registration ends Sunday, September 15th at 5:00pm CST.
Accommodation: When you register for this lecture, you will be asked to provide any accommodations requests. If you have any questions or would like to request an additional accommodation, please contact access@garfieldpark.org at least 72 hours prior to the event start.
