Conservatory Soundwalk with Amanda Gutierrez

December 21, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology‘s series of “Soundwalks In the Parks” explores our listening in the lush atmosphere of the conservatory. Teaching artist Amanda Gutierrez will guide you through wondrous scenes and soundscapes as a re-imagined place for understanding the meaning and memory of the earth and its people, plants, birds, insects, mammals, amphibians, and fish. Discover the rhythms, reflections, and “voices” of water, so essential for all life. Starting in the Palm House, experience with all your senses the rare, collected plant life in one of Chicago’s most unique architectural environments. This event is part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out In the Parks series, supported by Mayor Rahm Emmanuel.

This event is free and open to all ages.

A soundwalk is…

…for everyone’s enjoyment and learning

…opening our ears to every sound in the environment

…a rare opportunity for listening in a social group

A soundscape is…

…the experience of sound in your landscape

…always active and changing

…at times subtly affective and informative, but often unnoticed

…a natural resource, or a design made in sound
