Drawing Desert Plants; A Virtual Senior Series

The Garfield Park Conservatory has teamed up with artist Katia Pérez Fuentes to offer a virtual 3-week online drawing course that takes place in the comfort of your own homes!
This class is being offered to individuals age 55+ who’ve taken a drawing class with Garfield Park Conservatory in the past or have some prior drawing experience.
For this mini-series we will be taking inspiration from the Desert House at Garfield Park Conservatory. Participants will build a creative practice by using a traditional pencil/graphite techniques to depict our surrounding environments. This class will explore drawing exercises ranging from realism to abstract exploration using line, texture, and patterns found in nature. Pérez will facilitate a playful exploration of visual language and connection with our body by offering self reflective prompts for participants to strengthen our introspection. This course is bilingual; it potentially can be facilitated in English, Spanish, or both languages as needed .
This mini-course takes place on December 1, 8 & 15 on Tuesdays from 10:00am-12:00pm
General Registration: $90
Volunteers/Member Registration : $72
A list of required and optional materials will be provided for students to purchase on their own. Required materials include a pencil with an eraser and paper. Optional materials will total approximately $15-20. You’re welcome to use supplies you already have.

KATIA PÉREZ FUENTES is a non-binary, artist of color with community ties in Albuquerque, Chicago, and beyond. Their studio practice is a vessel for translating intuitive observations into visual access points for creative exchange. Perez’s work includes murals, paintings, drawings, and facilitating programming. KPF values dedicating time towards leisurely activities– stimulating occupations that enrich our quality of life through forms of celebration, play, study, ritual, and rest. They are a Mexican immigrant and first-generation graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
KPF also really loves plants.
