Soil isn’t just dirt—it’s a living, breathing foundation for all life. In this immersive two-part course, renowned soil ecologist Nance Klehm of Social Ecologies will guide you through the hidden world beneath our feet, helping you understand how soil health directly impacts urban environments, food systems, and ecosystems.

Designed for city dwellers, gardeners, land stewards, and anyone curious about the power of the earth, this participatory course will give you hands-on experience in assessing, restoring, and regenerating soil—even in urban settings. Each session will build upon the last, blending lecture, discussion, and interactive learning.

What to Expect:

  • Classes are interactive and cumulative  so we encourage attendance at both sessions.
  • No make-up sessions will be available.
  • Graduates who attend both sessions will receive a  Soil Keepers Certificate of Completion from Social Ecologies 

Meet Your Instructor:
Nance Klehm is the founder and director of Social Ecologies, an organization that consults and trains communities, organizations, and institutions worldwide on soil restoration, remediation, regenerative soil health, waste-to-nutrient systems, and sustainable water systems. Her work is deeply rooted in reimagining how human populations can coexist with plant and animal systems. Based in Chicago and the Driftless region of Northwest Illinois, Nance brings decades of expertise and a passion for hands-on ecological transformation.
