Is Anything Natural?: An Exploration of the Origin and Evolution of Grocery Store Vegetables

May 13, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

RSVP

This virtual discussion is a 60 minute crash course of the relationship between people and plants. Together, we will be investigating how opportunistic weeds became the vegetables and fruits we love and eat today. Attendees will learn the basics of plant domestication, gene manipulation, and the hidden, evolutionary history of these plants.

June Ahn is a second year graduate student in the Museum and Exhibition Studies program at UIC. She studied plant biology at Smith College and has worked in a variety of plant research laboratories including the Royal Botanic Garden in Kew, UK and the University of Chicago. June is a grapefruit enthusiast and loves spending time in grocery stores.

The virtual discussion will take place on Zoom. A link will be emailed to you closer to the lecture date.

At Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance we hope to accommodate you in you having your best experience. If you have a request for accommodations, please contact Sara Cortes at scortes@garfieldpark.org
