2nd Wednesday Lecture: Sebastián Hidalgo

March 11, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

RSVP

Sebastián Hidalgo is an award-winning photojournalist and digital producer who uses photography to engage and explore many social and humanitarian issues affecting communities of color. He is also an educator and host of The Visual Desk—a bi-weekly editorial support group for freelance visual journalists interested in a more inclusive approach to serve communities they engage in.

Hidalgo has covered a range of stories including the social effects of gentrification/displacement in Mexican-American neighborhoods, high property taxes in American suburbs, Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” pilot program, and the mental toll of wrongful convictions. He approaches every story and person with a sense of delicacy and vulnerability that respects the subject’s humanity. He believes in shared power with community members he is reporting in, as a way of growing in conjunction with the people who are in front of the camera, as a witness, a bridge and, in some cases, as a collaborator.
At Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance we hope to accommodate you in you having your best experience. If you have a request for accommodations, please contact Sara Cortes at scortes@garfieldpark.org or 773-638-1766.

This program is partially funding through grant funding from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
