About Us

Community Grows Through Nature.

Although the Garfield Park Conservatory first opened in 1908, the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance was formed nearly a century later, in 1998, by members of the Garfield Park community.

Today, the Alliance operates as a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the Chicago Park District to support the Conservatory through educational programming, public events, and community-centered initiatives. Our goal is to ensure this historic space continues to serve as a resource for Chicago and a place where people can connect with nature and one another.

The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance is guided by a shared mission and vision.

Mission

We change lives through the power of nature.

Vision

We envision a world where people embrace and honor the importance of nature.

A Garden for Everyone

The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance’s work is grounded in the belief that connection to nature is fundamentally important to the well-being of every person.

We are committed to creating a space that is welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all people regardless of age, race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, intellectual ability, or economic status. We recognize that a wide range of perspectives can only strengthen the experience we offer. We value diversity in all its forms and at every level of our organization – board, staff, volunteers, and vendors.

Through our work, we strive to create extraordinary and welcoming experiences for every individual who wants to experience what we offer at the Conservatory.

  2. Education – We infuse everything we do with enlightening elements because we believe learning happens everywhere.
  3. Wonder – Every visit to the Conservatory offers something new. We strive to spark curiosity in every visitor through authentic, fun, and engaging experiences.
  4. Vitality – We are committed to supporting both human well-being and environmental health by embracing sustainable practices and recognizing the regenerative benefits nature has on our community.
  5. Performance – We are accountable to our community, partners, and supporters, and strive to deliver thoughtful, high-quality experiences in everything we do.
