2nd Wednesday Lecture Series: Urban Beekeeping

September 12, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Bees on a frame

Urban beekeeping has been rising in popularity for more than a decade. Beehives have been popping up in unlikely places – rooftops of downtown buildings, airports and even the White House veggie garden. This lecture will explain the popularity of urban beekeeping and why you should, or shouldn’t, keep bees yourself. Learn about the practical realities of what it takes to keep bees and come away with some of the basic “hows” of urban beekeeping.

About the Presenter: Marcin Matelski has been keeping bees in the Chicagoland area since 2010. He manages around 50 hives in Chicago and suburbs. Since 2015, as the Head Beekeeper at Garfield Park Conservatory, he oversees the volunteer beekeeping program on site and teaches the beginning and advanced beekeeping classes.
