2nd Wednesday Virtual Lecture – Nateo Carreno: Resistance is Fertile
September 8, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for a virtual discussion on soil and plant health and climate resiliency in local ecosystems and agriculture with Nateo Carreno.
Nateo Carreno’s community disciplines are in soil remediation, plants, and nature. With those disciplines, they tend to the relational filaments between soil, nature, people, and queerness, that a commitment to western/imperial ideologies has historically degraded.
Resistance is Fertile: Mainstream understandings of how to feed plants and keep them healthy have been largely informed by practices that do not address soil health at its core. This lecture is a rigorous critique of the synthetic fertilizer industry, and will provide examples for fundamentally addressing soil/plant health while promoting climate resiliency in local ecosystems, and agriculture.
Nateo’s lecture is a collaboration between 2nd Wednesday Lectures by Garfield Park Conservatory and Grow with Us Sessions by Advocates for Urban Agriculture. Our collaborative sessions unite urban agriculture and nature to highlight the interconnection between the two worlds and how they shape and create an equitable food system.
