Guided Wellness Walk @ Garfield Park Conservatory

This wellness walk is guided by Kim Diaz Hay; children are welcome at this session.
Kim’s practice is a heart centered, curious saunter and playful partnership with the natural and More-Than Human World. The benefits of Forest Bathing can regenerate the body’s connection to the natural world, reminding us of our own regenerative natural wisdom and intelligence; a sensory journey toward wholeness. The natural world has the capacity to invite us in and when we slow down with the natural rhythms of the land, the experience binds us together. The health benefits of being in nature can provide a pathway to emotional well-being, and offer a greater sense of connectedness. Trees release phytoncides into the air, attacking fungus and when humans inhale phytoncides or absorb them through the skin, our bodies produce white blood cells (NK cells), defending against infectious organisms through the immune system.
This practice is inspired by Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of “forest bathing.” Kim and the forest will work together to hold a safe space for you and provide structure to the experience. The Forest is the Therapist; a Guide Opens the Doors. Spending time in the natural world while slowing down through guided immersions and gentle invitations; allow our sensory connections to take us on our own journey, supporting healthy relationships with self, nature, and others.
Registration is required and closes at 5:00pm before the start of the program. Space is limited to accommodate social distancing and masks are required throughout the program, regardless of vaccination status.

Kim’s Bio: Kimberly Diaz Hay is a certified Forest Therapy Guide trained with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), as well as a Master Gardener/Naturalist for the University of Illinois Extension. Forest Therapy opens the gateway for creativity and deepened relationship with self and the Natural World. Participants are guided through a series of connective invitations followed by a saunter and/or sit spot, immersing oneself, focusing on the present moment, deepening our connection to the Natural World. The benefits of nature connection support’s health and wellbeing of people and the land.
