Cabbage Patch

Visitors can enjoy the cabbage field anytime we are open. Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance staff and View of Garfield Park Conservatory and Cabbage Patch from the skyvolunteers will activate the exhibit with cabbage harvesting and family friendly activities on specific dates, and some dates also include a cooking demonstration. Get inspired to use your cabbage with our recipe book. You can download a copy  of our Cabbage Recipe Book (link opens in new tab) or join us at a harvesting date below to get a printed copy.

Artist Statement: “The beauty of the cabbage is undisputed – yet overlooked. By putting the cabbage forward to the spectacle as foreground to Garfield Park Conservatory, the city of Chicago and Chicago Architecture Biennial 2019, we wish to point towards its ability to raise urgent and existential questions through its inherent and paradoxical beauty and scale. Beyond that we aim to expand the social dimension of art and architecture by encouraging open, creative and critical thinking and learning, through engagement and by meeting reality in a new form of space – at the same time concrete and abstract.”
