Black History Month: Film Screening Shorts Santé and Pictures Only
February 22, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Join us for a screening and discussion highlighting the short films of African American filmmakers: Taylor Mason and Charles Honeywood.
Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance is hosting a film screening during Black History Month as an opportunity to provide a platform to BIPOC Chicago based artists. This evening includes two short films followed by a dialogue with the filmmakers. We welcome participation from our community and neighbors.
Santé is a short film about three estranged siblings who must decide where to spread their dysfunctional father’s remains over the course of a holiday weekend. Written, produced, and directed by Taylor D. Mason, the film premiered at the Black Harvest Film Festival in Chicago in 2022.
Pictures Only is set in 1950s Bronzeville. Louise Parker is facing eviction from her home. Desperate to keep her independence and status, she is introduced to a lucrative performing opportunity. After being offered a promotion, she is left with two choices, become the headliner, or allow her family to lose everything.
