Natural Dyeing with Flowers & Fresh Indigo Leaves

Join us in person at Garfield Park Conservatory to learn about natural dyeing with flowers & fresh indigo leaves and leave with two naturally dyed silk bandanas designed by you!
In this class you will learn:
- Natural dyeing basic principles
- How to prepare silk fabrics for natural dyeing
- How to bundle dye silk with flowers and which flower dyes are colorfast
- One way to dye silk fabrics with fresh indigo leaves
- How to care for naturally dyed fabrics
During this workshop instructor Kristin Field will guide participants through dyeing and designing two silk bandanas to take home. First, participants will bundle dye both bandanas with a variety of flowers. Next, participants will head out to our behind-the-scenes dye garden to harvest indigo and over dye one of the bandanas with the indigo leaves. Kristin has been working with and studying natural dyes for over 4 years and is the Adult Experiential Learning Manager with the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance.
