Join us at Garfield Park Conservatory and Gardens to celebrate Earth Month with our friends at the WasteShed! This “pop”ular class digs deep into the recycling bin to create unique and shiny aluminum collages. Be inspired by the collection at GPC&G and learn how to make mosaics from old soda cans with Norma Rios-Sierra! All supplies are provided. Bring your own rinsed out cans and incorporate a personal touch!

Event Details: 

When: Saturday, April 4 from 9am to 12pm.

Where: Garfield Park Conservatory and Gardens. This program will be hosted in the Jensen room.

Please note: Due to ongoing renovations of the Conservatory’s lobby, this workshop will be held in the Jensen room partially during public hours. The workshop will be in a shared space with the temporary Conservatory Gift Shop.
Participants will be able to explore the Conservatory before it is open to the public, but be advised that the Chicago Park District Staff will be conducting watering and general maintenance of the collection during the 9am to 10am hour.

This class is for adult aged 18+

Registration closes on Friday, April 3 at 5pm.

Accessibility Note: This workshop involves hammering, and there will be loud noise in the space.

All materials provided: Hammers, Finishing nails, Aluminum cans, Scissors, Xacto knives, Scrap wood, Protective gloves, Ear plugs. Participants are welcome to bring their own rinsed out cans to incorporate a personal touch!

About the Instructor: Norma’s work consists of stained glass and mosaics and is often inspired by her experience growing up in Logan Square as a Mexican immigrant. Her practice embodies community, unity and the idea that we all belong and deserve to feel welcome and safe.
