Garfield Park Conservatory & Gardens’ Music Under Glass summer concert series returns with an exciting lineup of three phenomenal West Side artists!
To close the series, we are excited to welcome Inti Illinois
Inti Illinois began as a meeting of friends with shared cultural histories. It soon transformed into something much bigger.
The group’s name merges two Native words: Inti, the Quechua word for sun and a reference to the Incan sun god. And Illinois, an Algonquian term for the local people.
Together, Inti Illinois sees the sun as a symbol connecting people of two continents. The band’s seven performers are from Ecuador, Chile, and the United States. They use music to preserve indigenous histories, maintain ties to cultures shaped by migration, share the beauty of their heritage, and create connections between South American migrants across the Chicagoland area. The group has played at cultural events throughout the region. Including the annual Ecuadorian picnic, the Inti Raymi celebration at Fitzgerald’s, and the Naperville Latin (sub)Urban ArtWalk.
About the performance:
Inti Illinois features traditional and modern music from the Andean region of South America. The performance ranges from haunting, wind-heavy melodies to upbeat dance music propelled by a strong drum beat. While the group features both guitar and flute, they also use instruments from indigenous traditions. String instruments such as the charango, wind instruments such as the zampona, or pan flute, and various percussion instruments. Their songs are primarily in Spanish, although several feature languages such as Quechua and Aymararu. Inti-Illinois offers a unique focus on a musical tradition deeply connected to nature, migration, and indigenous heritage.

Ages: Open to all ages though children must be accompanied by an adult. If your child can sit on your lap during the performance, no need to reserve an extra ticket.
